The CIO role is shifting to focus on infrastructure, innovation, integration and intelligence, according to Ginna Raahauge, the new CIO of Informatica and a veteran of both Riverbed and Cisco.
Although the role of CIOs is evolving, most still need to keep an eye on traditional concerns like infrastructure maintenance and support.
- Most importantly, CIOs need to keep a pulse on talent to survive in the evolving IT landscape, Raahague told CIO.com.
"IT these days really is about how we drive innovation," Raahauge said.
To survive, CIOs must focus on acquiring and developing talent as well as creating a culture of innovation internally. While technical depth is good, Raahauge said broad skills — like employees who become more predictive and hypothetical in their thinking — are the skills of the future that will become important and highly rewarded.
