Dive Insight:
NCLH is reaping the rewards of its ongoing digital transformation.
The company handled record volumes without any known performance or availability issues during its largest traffic event in November 2023, Mortakis said in the announcement.
During the cruise company’s investor presentation last month, executives highlighted that technology investments and leveraging “low-cost” AI were among its main initiatives. NCLH has been on a journey from fragmented data and manual interventions to automated best practices, the company said.
Cloud migrations often open the door to other modernization initiatives and ease access to emerging technologies. Having the right infrastructure is critical for travel and tourism companies as stakeholders urge businesses to embrace AI as a strategic priority.
As part of the 15-month AWS migration, NCLH moved more than 100 applications, thousands of virtual and physical servers, data center environments and server rooms. The cruise ship company also adopted DevSecOps practices into the software development process.
“Meticulous planning by the implementation team, leveraging cutting-edge technologies and innovative strategies to streamline the migration process, and an ‘all-hands-on-deck’ attitude were necessary,” Mortakis said in the release.
