Dive Insight:
AI-powered assistants and coding companions lure businesses with the promise of faster, more efficient teams.
GitHub Copilot is retaining its early lead as the top choice for AI code companions among enterprise developers even as the capabilities proliferate across vendors, according to Jason Wong, distinguished VP analyst at Gartner.
AWS has its CodeWhisperer and Google Cloud offers its Codey API suite. Other vendors have jumped in by strengthening large language models’ coding stamina or adding targeted tools.
“This market is rapidly evolving with organizations seeking to better understand how to apply generative AI, particularly with proprietary code bases and legacy code,” Wong said in an email.
Though CIOs see the potential benefits of coding tools, organizations that put speed over caution could face cascading consequences.
More than half of organizations encounter security issues with AI-generated code sometimes or frequently, according to a Snyk survey. Despite the risks. developers often bypass security protocols to use code completion tools.
