Google announced its now accepting applications for its Early Adopter Program for the Team Drives feature in Google Drive, according to a company blog.
Google has already been testing Team Drives with a few customers. The testing will now be made available to a broader number of companies.
The goal of Team Drives is to offer companies an easier way to share files across their organization, similar to Dropbox and Box.
Until now, Google Drive has focused more on personal productivity and file organization. But Team Drives will fulfill broader needs to aid larger organizations. It will also include controls to let admins restrict access to certain content if needed.
The cloud-based file sharing and sync services marketplace is growing increasingly competitive, with Box and Dropbox already fighting to win enterprise customers. But experts say it’s a huge market with room for multiple players.
