Dive Brief:
-
Technology and consulting companies dominated the list of the "Highest Paying Companies in America," according to the 2016 report released Wednesday by Glassdoor.
-
Though consulting firms A.T. Kearney and Strategy& took the top two spots for companies with the biggest paychecks, Juniper Networks came in third with a median base salary of $135,000 and a median total compensation of $157,000.
-
The median base salaries for the companies were well into the six-figure range. The lowest median base salaries were $120,000 from companies like SAP, LinkinedIn and Salesforce.
Dive Insight:
Even the last tech company on the list, Broadcom, had a median total compensation of $140,000 and a median base salary of $130,000, proving it can definitely pay well to be in IT.
Glassdoor based the report on each company’s median total compensation, which was gathered by looking at salary reports at companies in which employees voluntarily shared their base pay and other forms of compensation (i.e. bonuses, etc.) during the past year.
Along with Juniper Networks, Google and VMware, Amazon Lab126, Guidewire, Cadence Design Systems, Facebook, Twitter, Box, Walmart eCommerce, SAP and Synopsys all made the list.
Glassdoor’s Chief Economist, Dr. Andrew Chamberlain, said high pay continues to be tied to high-demand skills, which explains why there are so many technology and consulting companies on the list.
"In technology, we continue to see unprecedented salaries as the war for talent is still very active, largely due to the ongoing shortage of highly skilled workers needed," said Chamberlain.
