Dive Brief:
- Job information site Glassdoor released its list of the top 25 highest paying jobs in America for 2017 this week, and like in 2016, positions related to technology made up nearly half of them.
- Enterprise architect was the highest paying IT-related job on the list, at number six with a median base salary of $112,560, behind positions in the medical field and as well as a patent attorney.
- Other tech jobs that made the list included applications development manager (#8), software engineering manager (#11), IT architect (#12), software architect (#13), solutions architect (#15), data architect (#16), IT program manager (#18), UX manager (#19), and systems architect (#20). The lowest tech job on the list, scrum master (#22), was not far behind with a median base salary $95,167.
Dive Insight:
Last year, software development managers were the highest paid IT position on the list, taking the fourth spot with a median base salary of $132,000. This year, the role of software development manager did not appear on the list, though software engineering manager and software architect did, at number 11 and 13, respectively. Given the similarity in the roles, the changes are likely due more to semantics than anything else.
The fact that tech positions make up 11 of the 25 jobs on the list demonstrates how critical technology has become to businesses. Tech positions ranked higher than both attorney and nuclear engineer when it comes to salary, proving that high-demand tech positions can also be quite lucrative. But it also shows the prevalence of tech roles across sectors. Every company, no matter the industry, requires modern technology and solutions to compete in the current business climate.
Glassdoor's list, released annually, compiles the self-reported salaries of people in a variety of positions across industries.
