Dive Brief:
- CoreWeave is launching a trio of new capabilities aimed at simplifying cross-cloud AI training and inference, according to a Wednesday announcement. The new features include CoreWeave Interconnect, which directly links the AI cloud provider to Google Cloud and will be available soon in private preview for select regions.
- CoreWeave Interconnect uses Google Cloud’s Partner Cross-Cloud Interconnect capability, which allows developers to run training and inference workloads where needed. The interconnectivity makes it easier for developers to build distributed AI-powered services, said Rob Enns, VP and general manager of cloud networking at Google Cloud, in the announcement.
- CoreWeave also launched SUNK Anywhere and LOTA Cross-Cloud. SUNK Anywhere supports large-scale, long-running AI training projects, allowing developers to add capacity across environments including Google Cloud, AWS, Microsoft Azure and on-premises. Meanwhile, LOTA Cross-Cloud gives AI builders the ability to store data in one place while running workloads across cloud environments.
Dive Insight:
CoreWeave’s addition of cross-cloud capabilities supporting AI workloads comes as hyperscalers push to harness open cloud environments for enterprises deploying the technology at scale.
In December, AWS and Google Cloud launched a joint multicloud collaboration creating an open specification for network interoperability and enabling customers to shift from manually connecting clouds to deploying cloud-native experiences. Microsoft Azure is set to join the collaboration later in 2026.
“We are excited about this collaboration which enables our customers to move their data and applications between clouds with simplified global connectivity and enhanced operational effectiveness,” Enns said in a press release at the time.
While it spurred connectivity across multicloud environments, the collaboration also put pressure on other cloud providers to adopt Google Cloud and AWS’ interoperability standard, Forrester Principal Analyst Lee Sustar told CIO Dive when the partnership was announced.
CoreWeave, the latest cloud provider to join the hyperscalers’ interoperability push, said directly connecting to Google Cloud eliminates the middle man — third-party providers enterprises typically rely on to connect different clouds, removing the need for additional contracts for tech leaders to manage and negotiate.
The collaboration also extends the AI cloud provider’s reach through Google’s global network, Chen Goldberg, EVP of product and engineering at CoreWeave, said in the press release.
“CoreWeave Interconnect introduces a solution to a problem that has prevented organizations from reaching across clouds to leverage AI resources,” Goldberg said. “By removing the friction of cross-cloud, we are making it simpler and faster for organizations to run workloads anywhere.”
