- Microsoft, Intel, HP, Dell and Lenovo are partnering on a new marketing campaign designed to get consumers to buy new PCs, The Verge reported.
- The campaign targets consumers who have four- or five year-old computers.
- Intel says there are an estimated 500 million old PCs in existence.
The 30-second commercials spotlight various advances in PC technology, with hopes they will sway consumers considering buying smartphones or tablets instead or convincing users of older PCs that it’s time to refresh their hardware.
The campaign will launch October 19 in the U.S. and China.
Last week, research firm Gartner said worldwide shipments of personal computers fell 7.7% to 73.7 million units in the third quarter, while IDC said they fell 10.8% to 71 million units.
