- Tuesday, VMware released Workspace One, a new platform designed with BYOD in mind to give companies a way to manage multiple devices.
- Workspace One provides companies with one tool to craft digital workplaces aggregated across devices, applications and services. A common access also allows secure management.
- The company also updated its Horizon and Horizon Air tools for delivering and managing virtual applications and desktops.
VMware is trying to make it easier for enterprises to manage employees that use multiple mobile devices.
"Mobility initiatives are fascinating to observe inside businesses, but they can be extremely challenging for companies to wrap their arms around," Mark Bowker, a senior analyst with Enterprise Strategy Group, told CIO. With VMware's efforts, they are trying to make enterprise mobility easier to achieve.
Among other things, Workspace One features self-service device provisioning through the new unified management platform. Workspace One is expected to be available this quarter.
VMware has been increasing its focus on workplace flexibility applications. In September, the company announced a partnership with Microsoft on a new device management strategy designed to give businesses an easier way to roll out new operating systems as well as the apps employees use on tablets and smartphones.
