Dive Brief:
- One of Google’s enterprise leaders, Amit Singh, announced he is leaving his enterprise role to join the company’s virtual reality team.
- Singh had served as president of Google for Work. A company spokesperson told CRN that Singh's role will still exist and Google is looking to fill the position.
- The change comes six months after the company hired Diane Greene to serve as senior vice president of Google for Work and lead the company’s cloud operations.
Dive Insight:
Greene, formerly the co-founder and CEO of VMware, has been instrumental in helping shift the perception of Google’s cloud business. In Q1 Google managed to secure several major deals, including pacts with both Apple and Spotify—companies that previously relied exclusively on AWS for cloud services.
Some speculated that Singh would leave after Greene took over. Before Singh's position is filled, it is likely Greene will step in to work with his team.
"Diane Green is an enterprise software veteran and is going to run the playbook her very specific way," Tony Safoian, CEO of SADA Systems, told CRN.
