Dive Brief:
- RaceTrac has hired Ameet Shetty as its first-ever CIO, a company spokesperson confirmed to C-Store Dive.
- Shetty joins RaceTrac from financial services firm Equifax, where he had been its chief data officer since 2024. He also spent three years as CIO for Pilot Company, one of RaceTrac’s top travel center competitors, where he led enterprise data strategy and data engineering and oversaw modernization of its IT infrastructure, according to his LinkedIn bio.
- Shetty will spearhead RaceTrac’s ongoing tech transformation, which in recent years has unfolded at a pace that few mid-size convenience store retailers have been able to match.
Dive Insight:
Shetty’s hiring comes about three months after RaceTrac revealed it was looking to bring on its first CIO with longtime VP of IT John Lukas’s retiring at the end of the year. Lukas had overseen RaceTrac’s technology infrastructure as well as the revamp of its loyalty app and back-end marketing systems. He also spearheaded the IT integration of RaceTrac’s 2023 acquisition of Gulf Oil.
Those responsibilities are expected to be handed off to Shetty, who officially joined the company on Oct. 20, according to the announcement. His experience in technology, data and analytics, infrastructure modernization and artificial intelligence position him well to support the company's strong growth trajectory, according to the spokesperson.

“In his role, Ameet will guide us into our next era of innovation, focused on enterprise-wide technology vision, cybersecurity, data strategy, and AI adoption,” RaceTrac’s spokesperson said in a statement.
Atlanta-based RaceTrac has overhauled technology across several areas of the company over the past year. This includes bringing on a supply chain management platform, temperature monitoring system, forecourt analytics program and updated loyalty app.
